The position entails driving a bobtail and/or tractor trailer, sometimes long distances, over predetermined routes to transport packaged food and related products. This position is a manual handling, labor intensive job loading and unloading products from vehicle onto customer's premises. Considerable strength and endurance is required to safely and successfully perform this job due to the weight of merchandise and frequency it is handled. Operates company vehicle in a professional manner. This position delivers to the offshore docks and may be on call 24 hour seven days a week with every other weekend off.
Applies knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle in difficlt situations, such as narrow passageways. Inspects truck for condition. Maintains driver log according to DOT regulations. May assist workers in loading vehicle. Unloads products from vehicle upon reaching destination. Cleans inside of truck or trailer. May direct driver helper, if assigned one, to load or unload truck and carry merchandise. Interacts with customers on daily basis while making deliveries to places of business. Includes collection of money from customers, recording transactions, credits for returned products, listening to, resolving and reporting service or delivery complaints or problems to supervisor.
Must be 21 years of age or older
Class A CDL operator's license & good driving record required
Ability to read & comprehend computer printouts and write legibly
High School Diploma or GED/equivalent
Complete DOT acceptable application for employment
Successfully complete DOT required road test; DOT drug screen & physical
General knowledge of highways and locations in LA, TX, MS, AL & surrounding states where deliveries may be scheduled
Ability to take direction & comprehend instructions; work well with others
Know & obey all traffic regulations; be safe & conscientious driver; ability to drive bobtail and /or tractor-trailer
Good communication skills needed for interactions with customers in making deliveries
Able to lift up to 80 lbs.; average is 26 lbs. per case
Able to tolerate cold temperatures ranging from 0 degrees to 100 degrees working in coolers & freezers in trailers, on company or customer premises
